The coolest room DIY you'll ever do

If your room doesn’t have that wow factor you’ve always wanted, a fun 70s-inspired lava lamp may be the answer. This DIY is super easy to do and will add an instant cool-girl vibe to your otherwise simple room. Plus, the glittery illumination totally ups the cheer factor making solving math problems at your desk a lot more fun.

TIP: There are two super important places to have light in your room: your desk and your bedside table.

What you’ll need:

  • Vase (any kind)
  • Food coloring (your fave color)
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of glitter (any kind)
  • 1 cup of water
  • Alka Seltzer

Directions:

1. Fill a vase ¾ full with vegetable oil.

2. Mix 1 cup of water with a 5-10 drops of food coloring (your choice of color).

3. Add the colored water to the vegetable oil in vase (make sure to leave an inch of space at the top of the vase).

4. Break a whole Alka Seltzer tablet into small pieces and drop into the vase (one piece at a time).

Note: For extra color add a few drops of food coloring into a different color while adding Alka Seltzer

5. Drop in your glitter if you want to add some sparkle to your lava lamp.

6. Watch your new 'n' cool lava lamp bubble!

Note: If your lamp stops bubbling, just add a few more peices of Alka Seltzer tablets. Be sure not to put more than 3 tablets at a time to avoid overflowing.
