Newly single? Start fresh with a "breakover"

Sigh, the dreaded breakup. Seems like the only way to mend a broken heart is by lounging in PJs while nomming on bottomless bowls of ice cream. We beg to differ. What you need is a "breakover," which is exactly what it sounds like: a post breakup makeover. So, buck up, girlie, and try our style and beauty tricks to make him eat his heart out.

DO give yourself some R&R.

After you've tried our get-him-outta-your-head tricks, your breakover starts with pampering—and lots of it. Treat yourself to a spa day with the works: mani/ pedi, soothing face mask and even a self-massage. Go ahead, you know you deserve it.

DON’T dress too relaxed.

We know sweats are good for shedding a tear or two while watching The Notebook. But as for the hallways? Skip the grungy hoodie and leggings combo. Seriously, when was the last time someone in sweatpants turned your head? Never? Exactly.

DO dress to stun.

First things first, opt for figure-flattering pieces that show off your shape. (Go here to figure out what looks best on your frame.) Not too baggy and not too tight, you want something to fit juuust right. Adding sky-high heels won't hurt either. Drab and neutral hues? Pass. Pick out cheery colors for insta-charm (think: bright blues, yellows, pinks, orange). Who said clothes can’t make ya happy?

DON’T dress provocatively.

Sure, you wanna make his jaw drop. But with too much skin showing, “Here’s what you’re missing” gets garbled into “OMG please take me back!” You want confident and classy, not insecure and trashy. Pass on anything too tight, too short, too revealing or, worse, all three.

DO make your face glow.

Now’s the time to be adventurous with your makeup. That bright pink lip you’ve been meaning to try? Go for it! Just pair it with minimal shadow on your lids. The same bold-meets-subtle rule goes smoky eyes and barely there lip color. Or, stick with the basics and play up your peepers on the reg.

DON’T go drastic.

Chopping off your locks or dyeing your hair 10 shades lighter seems liberating. But beware. That unflattering shade of blonde can come back to haunt if you once your breakup blinders are off. If it’s something you’ve been looking to try for a while, don’t let us stand in your way. But just a suggestion: first, wait a week or so before committing. Then, start small and amp it up from there.

And remember: Guys come and go. Keep your head high, devote a li’l QT to your fab self every now and then and you’ll be over whatshisface in no time.
