What it *actually* takes to be #relationshipgoals
There's probably not a day that goes by that you don't see a pic of a cute couple captioned as #relationshipgoals or #goals when you're scrolling through your Insta feed. From pics of adorbs hand holding to couples canoodling beachside, the hashtag is used *everywhere*. But what these posts don't show? What it actually takes to be #relationshipgoals, the "ugly" side of relationships or the hard work. Like...
Honesty
It can be difficult to say or hear, but the truth is always better than a lie. Whether it's about something small or life-changing, lying to the person you're dating is never a good idea. The exception? If you're planning the surprise birthday party of your bae's dreams.
Trust
Without trust in a relationship, there is no relationship—plain and simple. Trust and honesty go together like peanut butter and jelly and it's hard for a relationship to have one without the other.
Communication
Being able to talk to the person you're dating about anything in the world is extremely important. When you can openly talk to them it makes fights easier to get past and allow for you to connect with them on a deeper level.
Patience
No relationship is smooth sailing. There are going to be fights and times when you both annoy each other like crazy, but being patient and calm will go a long way.
Independence
Being in a relationship is nice because you always have someone to talk to, get Chipotle with and steal hoodies from. However, it's also important to spend time apart from each other and take time for yourself or your friends and family.
