How to deal with an ex in your friend group

Going to school with your ex can be hard. Having to share them with your besties is much worse. Luckily, there are ways to get around the awkwardness without pretending your ex doesn't exist. Here are some tips for dealing with (and possibly enjoying) your ex's company.

Acknowledge them.
Acting like your ex isn't there could make the situation more awkward than it needs to be. A simple wave or nod of the head is a friendly way to greet your ex without saying too much.

Don't ask your friends to choose sides.
It's hard to choose between two friends you care for. If you're bothered by your ex's closeness to your trustworthy friends, request some alone time. One-on-one conversations reassure your friends you care and tell them how you're feeling.

Avoid hanging with your ex alone.
Spending time in groups keeps you and your ex from saying or doing something you may regret. If you know your split from your ex was for the best, avoid being alone with them.

Stay away from trash talk.
Gossiping about your friends can cause issues. However, gossiping about an ex can make everyone uncomfortable. Share your feelings with a friend (in confidence) to let out your frustrations in a healthy way and gain support.
