Too shy to chat

I like a guy at school, but we don't know each other that well. I think if I got to know him I could figure out where my racing heart and sweaty palms are coming from.
The problem: I have no idea how to start talking to him! I'm shy with guys and after slow dancing with him at homecoming (I asked) nothing really changed and it totally busted my confidence. How can I get to know him and get him to like me back?
HIS ANSWER: “First off, a dance is just what it is: a dance. He didn't know you that well, so you can't expect everything to fall into place after that one moment. However, the fact that you did share that moment means you don't have to be shy about talking to him.
If you want to get to know him and talking is too hard, then don't talk—wave at him or smile when he passes by. A simple hey or hello would do. If that’s too hard to do, there's always Facebook.”
DECODED: While you may have felt some kind of connection at the homecoming dance, you have to keep in mind that it was after all, only a dance. Nothing between the two of you will change overnight, especially if you two don’t know each other. However, since that you asked him for a dance and that he actually said “yes,” you’ve gotten a lot further than you think.
Keep the lines of communication open by either saying “Hi,” occasionally waving or asking him, “How are you doing?” when you see him pass by in the hallway. And thanks to the remarkable invention of social networking, message/friend him on Facebook, and get to know him better.

MAKE YOUR MOVE: Put your inhibitions aside and get to know him. Learn what he likes and dislike and see if you have anything in common. And when you see that you are able to talk to him more freely, amp it up a notch and invite him out to fun and friendly places like the movies, lunch with friends, ice skating or whatever you think he might enjoy. And from there, you’ll get to know him better and possibly work your way into either making a good friend or an even better boyfriend. Good Luck!
