Sometimes the worst thing you can do is nothing at all.

And, well, that's exactly what seniors Emily and Lucas did in A Step Toward Falling, a new novel from author Cammie McGovern. Though different in basically every way, both Emily and Lucas found themselves standing by, watching, as their developmentally disabled classmate Belinda was attacked.

As their preconceived perceptions about the people they're helping begin to disappear, so do their perceptions of each other—an overachiever and a jock, who just might be more alike than they seem.

But things aren't turning out so well for Belinda, who shares the alternating narrative with Emily. Still reeling from her attack, she takes comfort in Pride and Prejudice (and a super cute actor, of course), but isn't entirely able to forgive the two people who stood by and watched. 

Every once in a while, you get a second chance.
