Join GL’s Book Club!
All you lit chicks out there, this is for you! Starting June 1, we’re launching a brand-new online Book Club, where GL gals and GL editors will check out fab reads, and then come back and talk about ’em! Nothing like some books to bring us all together, right?
Here’s how it will work: We’re doing a book a week. You can read every one, or just the ones that catch your interest. The discussion on the book-of-the-week starts every Sunday. You can chime in with your opinions and thoughts on the book and get to hear what your fellow GL gals have to say! Plus, a GL editor will be checking in throughout the week to respond to some of your ideas and to give her own take on the book.
Here’s the schedule for June! Aim to have the book read by the due date so you can take part in the fab discussion.
June 8: Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer (Little, Brown)
To kick things off, we’re going with a classic. Lots of GL gals have already read it (and loved it!), so it seems the perfect book to get things rolling. Plus, it’s coming out as a movie later this year! It’s the first in the Twilight Saga series.
June 15: Generation Dead, by Daniel Waters (Hyperion)
Everyone says that high school is the best time of their lives, but for some, it might be the best time of their afterlives. Teens all over the USA have been waking up…after they die and no one knows the reason. High school is hard enough, but fitting in when you’re dead is near impossible. Imagine the reaction when Phoebe, a living girl, falls for Tommy, the leader of the dead kids.
June 22: Suite Scarlett, by Maureen Johnson (Scholastic)
The Hopewell Hotel has graced the heart of New York City and Scarlett’s family for generations. As summer begins, Scarlett turns 15 and receives a tube of ruby-red lipstick and the key to the Empire Suite. Traditionally, Scarlett would maintain this “most magnificent guest room,” but additionally she becomes assistant to its newest resident, Mrs. Amberson, an aging C-list starlet, world traveler, and aspiring autobiographer. Soon Scarlett is taking dictation, running around town, and getting caught up in hilarious and unforeseen schemes and adventures.
June 29: The Trials of Kate Hope, by Wick Downing (Houghton Mifflin Company)
Thanks to a loophole in the law, fourteen-year-old Kate has become the world’s youngest lawyer. Following in her family’s footsteps, Kate joins her grandfather in defending the underdog, literally. Kate’s first client is Herman, a falsely accused German shepherd. Through unforeseen obstacles, Kate comes and saves Herman from doggie death row.
So head to your local library or check out a bookstore near you. We can’t wait to get to this summer reading (just make sure you keep reading those school books, too, until school’s officially over!).
Hearts,
The (book-crazy) GL Gals
