Stare danger in the face with The 100 new book series

Kass Morgan's The 100 is an innovative, exciting new book (already in the works of becoming a TV show!) that you have to get your hands on.

Centuries in the future, humans live in space stations, far away from the now toxic, radioactive Earth. As resources on their ships dwindle, desperation to rein Earth grows and it’s finally time to test if it can be livable again.

Who would possibly want to go on this probable suicide mission, though? Being sent to a strange land that has been uninhabited for hundreds of years? That's where the 100 come into play.

In the stations, a new judiciary system has been established: those convicted of crimes are immediately sentenced to death. If you're under the age of 18 though, you are incarcerated until you're of age and then retried one final time. Almost all of such cases end in execution—it’s the way things have worked since the switch to stations. But now, 100 inmates under 18, awaiting retrial, are chosen as this mission’s test subjects.

Clarke is one of the 100. Sentenced for treason, hiding many secrets and haunted by what she has done, Clarke makes for an incredibly intriguing protagonist. Wells, the chancellor's son who is extremely in love with Clarke, purposefully commits a public crime so he will be incarcerated and sent to Earth to follow her. But will Clarke ever be able to forgive Wells for what he did to her in the past? Or will Wells' grand gesture of giving up his privileged life to possibly die on Earth be for nothing?

Bellamy and Octavia are brother and sister, and the only siblings on the ship. Bellamy volunteered himself after learning his younger sis was forced on the journey—a way to protect her, if you will.

While all these characters are on Earth, Wells' friend Glass managed to escape the transport pod and is still living on the ship, providing special perspective on what life on the space station is like while the main story is taking place on Earth. But life is difficult and still dangerous on the ship, too. Supplies are limited, everyone is tense and Glass is tangled up in an emotional, forbidden romance.

The concept of The 100 is ingenious and creative, developing an overall story that is fantastic. What happens as this group of 100 battles each other, their new environment and themselves in an incredible fight for survival? Will they be able to live? Will their secrets destroy everything? Be sure to pick up a copy of The 100 (in stores now) to find out.
