10 things we loved from the "Anti-Hero" music video
If you're like us, you also got zero sleep last Thursday night (Oct. 20). The reason? Midnights, Taylor Swift's tenth studio album, graced our AirPods and speakers for the very first time, and it's safe to say we haven't been the same since. Not only are the tracks all 10/10s, but the "Anti-Hero" music video took our breath away. While there are countless things we love about it, we're here to break down our 10 fave elements.
1. The outfits
From ordinary Taylor to evil Taylor to giant Taylor, the outfits check all the '70s-chic boxes. Stripes and fun patterns in every look—how could we ask for more?
2. The sets
Equal parts homey and retro, each room in the MV totally fits the vibe. A wallpaper dining room moment? Yes, pls.
3. The ghosts
The subtle nods to other eras the ghosts gave us were so cute. The cat ears and heart-shaped sunnies both gave us Red vibes, and the brown hat has been debated: "cowboy like me" or Taylor Swift?
4. The glitter
OK, we can admit: glitter oozing out of eggs, bow-and-arrow wounds and vomit might not be the most glamorous artistic decision, but there's no doubt it added to the whimsical/nightmarish experience of the video.
5. The Marjorie cameo
If you look carefully in the background of the bathroom scene, you'll see a framed photo of Taylor's grandmother, Marjorie, who, ofc, inspired the track on evermore by the same name.
6. Taylor's "kids"
The funeral scene was, well, Midnights Mayhem, and the star-studded cast made it that much better. Comedians Mary Elizabeth Ellis, John Early and Mike Birbiglia joined forces to play Taylor's sons and daughter-in-law. Fun fact! Mary Elizabeth Ellis played Nick's girlfriend, Caroline, in New Girl, where Taylor made a cameo in the season two finale.
7. The Fearless dress
We love any blend of old and new, so to see a dress from the 2009 Fearless tour make an appearance was so fun and unexpected. Did someone say Y2K?
8. The memorial photo
It's no secret that Taylor *never* leaves a detail unnoticed, and the memorial photo at her funeral was no different. It pictured an elderly Tay in her happiest state—surrounded by cats, ofc.
9. The final scene
Every good coming-of-age film has an on-the-roof moment, and Taylor totally delivered that in "Anti-Hero". Her moment with evil Taylor and giant Taylor was a cute heart-to-heart that tied a sentimental ribbon around her masterpiece of a music video
10. The credits
Once again, Taylor took it upon herself to write and direct the video, which has us asking: "What *can't* she do?!"
TL;DR, Catch us listening to "Anti-Hero" and the rest of Midnights for the foreseeable future.
