Zayn Malik thanks his 1D boys in a touching acceptance speech

 
You can take the Zayn Malik out of One Direction, but you can't take the One Direction out of Zayn. Though Zayn may no longer be a member of 1D after he left the band just a few weeks ago, he still has plenty of love for the band and their music—and even more for the bandmates he travelled, performed, loved and laughed with for all those years. 

At the Asian Awards this weekend, which he attended with his mom, Zayn was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award, no doubt in part for his time with 1D. Fittingly, he took some time during his acceptance speech to make one of his first public statements since leaving the band, giving a shoutout to his former bandmates and friends. 

"I’d also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I ever met whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things I did," he shared on stage. "Some of the things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life." We're so proud of Zayn for winning his award—and so glad that the boys all still have love for each other, no matter what happens.

Zayn also tweeted recently thanking all the people who've supported him on his new journey.

 


In other 1D news, the foursome have been hard at work on their new, fifth album and Simon Cowell says the boys are totally rocking it. "I have a feeling they're going to deliver this year the best record they've ever made," he promised.
