How to start loving your skin
Is your skin giving you a hard time right now? We've all been there. Breakouts, blemishes and acne scars can be *so* frustrating, but they don't have to be. You can (and should!) love your skin no matter how stubborn it's being. And while this might sound easier said than done, embracing your real skin is possible (plus, it'll feel amazing to let these worries go, trust). Here are a few tips to help you start loving your skin, just the way it is.
Tip #1: Don't compare yourself to others
It can be super easy to look at others and wish your skin was more like theirs, especially if your skin is acting up the same day that your friend's is absolutely glowing. If you catch yourself falling into this trap of negative self-talk, remind yourself that nobody's skin is completely perfect all the time. Focus on yourself and what you can do to be more confident on the daily. (Keep reading to find out how!)
Tip #2: Remember you're not alone
While you shouldn't compare yourself to others, you should still recognize that *so* many teens also struggle with breakouts, acne and skin imperfections. Plenty of girls are trying to figure out how to care for their skin and what works best for them, especially as young people. It's just a part of life! If you ever find yourself thinking that you're the only one working to find the perfect products that work for you, remember that learning to love your skin is a journey that so many others are currently on.
Tip #3: Normalize not having "perfect" skin
You might be constantly confronted with images of "perfect" skin but, tbh, most of that is due to the work of filters and editing. The media you consume won't always showcase unfiltered skin, so it's totally unfair for you to compare your real self to a false image. Surrounding yourself with skin-positive social media content (for example, following influencers and celebs who promote those messages and document their own experiences with acne, breakouts or scars) is a super simple way to normalize the reality of skin struggles and help you embrace yours when they come up.
Tip #4: Realize you are more than your acne
Ofc, your insecurities won't disappear overnight, and the journey towards truly loving your skin is one that is ongoing. It sounds easier said than done, but it's key to keep in mind that your self-worth doesn't depend on your appearance—and that includes your acne. Making time for some self-care will give you a much-needed confidence boost. This could def involve finding some great new skincare products to try out, but sometimes it might also just mean engaging in positive self-talk and reminding yourself that you're *so* much more than your skin.
