Lip shades to shock (and flatter!) any complexion
You might have thought dark lip shades were reserved for fall, but we’re totally in the midst of a goth revival summer. It’s always tricky trying to figure out which makeup colors will look the best on you, and with bold dark colors, it’s imperative you pick the right shade. Here's our handy guide to finding a hue that works for you.
For dark skin…
It’s pretty much a fact that berry colors are beautiful and can really make darker skin tones pop. Try this Nars lipstick in Gipsy for $28.
For medium/bronzed skin…
Deep browns and burnt oranges are the go-to (although, in addition to fair skin, purple totally complements a medium skin tone). Try Anastasia Beverly Hills' liquid lipstick in Spicy for $20.
For olive skin…
A deep burgundy will look gorgeous, as well as anything brown-based that resembles mahogany. Try Smashbox’s Always On liquid matte in True Grit for $24.
For fair skin…
Lipsticks with purple and blue undertones will stand out and completely complement pale skin. For a dark, vampy look, try Mac’s intense black-purple Cyber for $17.
Of course, these are only suggestions, and there's a broad spectrum of skin tones in the world that far exceeds four categories. You can only truly know what’ll look great on you through trial-and-error, so swatch colors before you buy them and, if you can, try them on! You might be surprised at all the different shades you can rock.
