Crucial Update: Why your makeup isn't working miracles

We've all been there: You shelled out major $$$ for a foundation that is “clinically proven” to blur every pore, wrinkle and blemish on your face. But when you brought it home, your brand-new buy fell short...in literally every possible way. So what's the deal?

You’ve just fallen victim to one of the beauty industry's advertising lies.

New research published in the Journal of Global Fashion and Marketing suggests that 82% of the promises made in beauty advertising are totally false. The study analyzed over 700 different kinds of advertising claims—superiority claims, scientific claims, endorsement claims...the list goes on and on. In the end, though, only 18% of the claims made actually turned out to be true.

And while the FDA does monitor the cosmetics industry, they’re only concerned about whether or not products are considered safe...NOT if they’re actually doing what they claim to do. In other words, if that new mascara claims to triple the length of your lashes, it probably doesn't. Yikes.

So how do you find the right beauty products for you if you can’t trust the ads? Ask your friends what their go-to mascaras and lip glosses are or look for reviews from beauty gurus and makeup professionals. Good luck!
