Beauty rumors: Real or fake?
Don’t wear nail polish every day; it’s important to let your nails breathe.
Real or just a rumor?
It is 100% r-e-a-l! We all heart nail polish ‘cause it makes our tips instantly glam. But did ya know it also has some risky aspects like nose and throat cancer (yikes!)? Ever noticed your nails have a yellowish tinge after applying polish? This is the awful result of nail polish’s harsh chemical ingredients. A chica’s nails are an extension of her skin and whatever ya put on ‘em can travel straight to the rest of your bod. Prevent nail nastiness by always applying a base coat when painting your tips and looking for polishes that are “3 Free”: formulated without harmful chemicals like Tolulene, Formaldehyde, DBP or Parabens.
Our fave 3-Free polish: Butter London in Jaffa, $14, butterlondon.com
There are no natural ways to plump your lips.
Real or just a rumor?
This one’s fake. Have ya ever dreamt of bee-stung lips but don’t have the guts to try out a lip plumper? Here’s your chance to get the lips of your dreams: Start whistling! It’s true: Whistling for just 4-8 minutes each day helps circulate the blood flow in your lips, which can make them fuller. Brings new meaning to the phrase “Whistle while you work!”, right?
Wearing mascara on the daily can make your lashes fall out.
Real or just a rumor?
Hello, real. Don’t freak, mascara won’t make lashes fly off your face within seconds, but it won’t keep ’em lush and healthy forever, either. By not properly removing mascara at the end of the day, your lashes will become fragile and frail and could eventually start falling out. But there is a cinchy cure: Gently remove your eye makeup before bed using a mild makeup remover and cotton pad. (Told ya it was easy!)
Our fave all-natural mascara: Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara, $22, sephora.com
If you eat certain foods your eyes will change color over the years.
Real or just a rumor?
This one is so not true. The eye color you are born with is the eye color you are stuck with, but not necessarily forever! Many chicks have opted to change their peepers with color contacts. But there are easy ways to play up certain color tones in your irises: Wearing warm colors such as brown, pink and orange can make blue or green eyes pop, while cool colors like blue, green and purple emphasize brown and hazel colored eyes.
