How to Score Runway Waves

Super-soft, 40s-inspired waves are the hottest curls on the runway. These beauties have a touch of structure (without being stiff) and are a totally glam alternative to a pony or locks that’re down ‘n’ straight. Whether you want flirty date-night strands or a pretty school-dance mane, here’s how to get gorgeous old-Hollywood hair.
This look works best with a dramatic side part. Use a comb to create a deep part (hint: the outer edge of your eyebrow should be perf). Create volume by teasing hair before you put it in hot rollers. Grab a fine-toothed comb and separate tresses into easy-to-work-with sections. Starting at the bottom of your hair, gently comb upwards toward your scalp a little at a time.

Next, wind big sections of your hair around small hot rollers. Let ‘em set for 20 minutes (just enough time for a DIY pedi, no?). Make sure you avoid using jumbo-sized curlers—they don’t give the right look for this ‘do.

Take rollers out and unleash the curls. Use a wide-tooth comb to loosen the curls. Then, hit it with some hairspray, and get ready to steal the show!
