Your guide to dressing like a Gilmore girl this fall

Now that we've officially entered autumn, there isn't anything more comforting than curling up on your sofa with a mug of chamomile tea and hearing the first few bars of "Where You Lead I Will Follow." Upon starting your annual Gilmore Girls rewatch, you might notice something about our favorite quick-witted small-town gals: their fantastic fits! From corduroy flares to sherpa-lined denim jackets, here is your guide to all the Gilmore Girls essentials you need this fall.

Low-rise pants

Target, $28

A Y2K style that has regained popularity in recent years, low-rise pants are a staple in the Gilmore girls' closets. Whether you want to stick to casual with dark-wash denim, be cozy with corduroy (there're so many shades!), go ultra 2000s with cargo or emulate one of Lorelai's work looks with trousers, you can't go wrong with this classic style. This pair of mocha brown bootcut cords brings all the autumn vibes and can be styled in numerous ways (an oversized scarf + Dr. Martens for the pumpkin patch *or* a tee with your school colors for Friday football).

Knits

H&M, $28

If there's one thing you can't survive without during fall in Stars Hollow, it's a snuggly knit. Over the course of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai and Rory both don their fair share of sweaters, from sleeveless or short-sleeve turtlenecks (perfect for the girls who live where a chill doesn't sweep the ground till December) to cable knits like *that* cream number from the pilot. You can snag this super similar sweater from H&M and pair it with some dark denim and combat boots to unlock your inner Rory. (Or tap into some Taylor energy with an oversized cardigan.)

Sherpa-lined jackets

Macy's, $65

The falling leaves outside signal that, alas, it's time for layering. Residents of Stars Hollow *love* their sherpa-lined jackets during the chilly months; Lorelai's own maroon and corduroy version was iconic (and perfect for that oh-so-romantic gazebo picnic with Luke), and we would love to steal Jess's denim variety. A high-quality coat can be pricey, but is definitely worth the investment if you live somewhere where frostbite beckons by early October. Try this Levi's sherpa trucker jacket for warmth and style.

Boots

Target, $40

Lorelai Gilmore is always dressed fashionably from head to toe and is known to top her impeccable fits off with a pair of heeled leather boots. Whether put together with a skirt and tights or tucked under flared jeans or trousers, tall boots will never go out of style. This faux leather pair from Target will have you looking like you're off to run the Independence Inn in no time (even if in reality you're only heading to third-period geometry). Better yet, they also come in brown! If heels aren't your thing, just go the Rory route with a pair of black Dr. Martens. These boots *were* made for walking.

Skirts

H&M, $35

From Lorelai's floral midis for Friday night dinners and straight-cut suit skirts for work (a matching blazer? yes please!) to Rory's plaid Chilton look and post-Europe cargo mini, the Gilmore gals love their skirts, so it would only be fitting to finish their list of essentials off with one. H&M sells this stripey mini that would fit right in on the streets of Stars Hollow. Pair this final piece with some tall black boots and a cozy turtleneck and you're all set for a fashionable Gilmore fall!
