A new day - An original poem
A new day
Rusty and old,
the worn down clock.
In the town square.
Stands tall,
still,
silent,
lifeless.
Suddenly, a creak
squeaking gears, and metal springs
shifting,
activity and life,
stirring.
Then,
booming echo.
A tired metal clang,
vibrates though the
night time air.
Moonlight filters into
bedroom windows.
Softly drifting past wavering glass.
The sleeping world,
devoted to dreams
Silky stars
suspended glowing
bright,
in the cloak of
night sky.
A sweet dream
floats through her consciousness.
Summer sun
beats down.
Sweet like apple
crisp.
Where gentle waves,
lap up and down upon the shore.
Steady,
constant,
ceaseless.
A melody, of water
and current.
Dawn unfolds.
Alighting the water,
with slivery finger tips.
Sandpipers dart across
glowing sand.
Forked footsteps, creating a pattern
like detailed stitch work.
Music floats across,
gleaming water.
Notes hover on
the now frosty air,
as though frozen
in time.
The sound continues,
echoing.
As the old clock’s clanging
vibrates,
through her dreamland.
Frozen in fear,
she cowers.
eyes widening.
Her heart seems to stop,
and her whisking world,
no longer spins.
As though her heart
has been grasped
by a ghost’s
icy fingers
Shooting up in bed,
feathery wings
flap through overhead.
Sighing,
she rolls out of bed,
and greets the new day.
As it unfolds before
her.
