Tough Stuff
My friend almost died!
I have a really good friend and a couple nights ago she was throwing up and bruises started forming on her stomach. Her parents took her to the hospital where they called a helicopter to take her to a bigger hospital. While she was in the helicopter, she nearly died. She was having a hard time breathing on her own, so they had to hook her up to this machine that helped her breathe. She's off the machine, and getting much better. It turns out she has a kind of meningitis.
I'm so afraid for her, and I want to help her in some way. What should I do?
Hey girl! Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. That sounds terrible, although it's great news that she went to the hospital when she did. Sounds like the doctors are doing everything they can to help her out and that she will be just fine.
Remain Calm
I know you are scared about her condition, but being scared around her won't help her remain calm. Your friend needs to be as calm as possible so she doesn't get sicker. Doctors Know Best
It takes a lot to get into medical school, so rest assured the doctors helping your friend probably know what they are doing. You said she's getting better, so trust that your friend's doctors are going to help her do just that.Visit Her
Make your visits to the hospital cheerful and uplifting. Tell funny stories, bring funny magazines or watch reality T.V. Do anything and everything to keep her mind off of her nearly-fatal condition, and she will appreciate it greatly.
Before you know it, your friend will be up and running to the mall with you as usual. In the meantime, keep her occupied with fun stuff and trust that she will get better soon.
