If you're thinking about going to college, then you know how overwhelming it can be trying to pick the best fit for you. If you're wondering where to start, we've got you covered. Here are 5 crucial questions to ask yourself when making the big decision.

1. How far do you want to go from home?

First, take some time to consider just how far from home you're comfortable going. Do you want to start someplace totally new? Or do you prefer to stay close to your fam? Answering this question is a great first step in narrowing down your list of schools.

2. What kind of location do you prefer?

Are you a big-city kind of gal? Or are you obsessed with Gilmore Girls and looking for a more Star's Hollow-esque rural atmosphere? There's no right or wrong answer here—just choose a location you know you'll be comfortable in.

3. What size school would be best for you?

Smaller schools have smaller class sizes, which means you'll get to know your classmates and professors better. With larger class sizes, you may have more independence and more opportunities to socialize with new people. Both have their benefits, so consider which type of classroom suits your learning style best.

4. What programs are you interested in pursuing?

Be sure to check that the schools you're looking at actually offer the major you're interested in. If you don't know what you want to study yet, that's OK, too! Look into which schools allow you to start freshmen year undeclared or choose a school with a variety of options you're considering.

5. Besides academics, what would you like to be involved in?

Lastly, remember that college isn't *all* about going to classes and studying in the library. It's about getting involved and having fun, too. Make sure to look for schools that offer organizations you're interested in—whether that be sports, service organizations or social clubs. This is a great way to see if any schools on your list stand out to you!
