How to find your dream hobby

Everyone should spend time enjoying a hobby. So often do we find ourselves packing our scheds full with impressive-sounding extracurrics for college apps. But this makes it hard to actually discover what we are passionate about.

By doing things solely for the Y-O-U, you can successfully find *that* hobby you have always been longing for. Check out these five ways to help you finally discover the hobby of your dreams.

1. Try it out, girl!

We aren't advising you to go out and try every single hobby imaginable (that'll only leave you with a nasty case of burnout), but if something even slightly, remotely interests you, go for it girl! You have to give hobbies a try. Get out there and try out whatever catches your eye!

2. Do your research

If a hobby even remotely interests you, open up Google and do some research. The hobby of your dream has to fit into your schedule and budget, so consider those factors during your info gathering session. Watch YouTube tutorials on break dancing, Google supplies you would need to crochet or make a savings plan for a pair of roller skates.

3. Journal time

Make a bullet-pointed list under the following prompts:

What do I like?
Ex. reading GL articles, jamming out to T. Swift

What am I good at?
Ex. making aesthetic Pinterest boards, eyeliner lewks

What could I be doing more of?
Ex. keeping my cool in stressful situations, cleaning my room (ugh)

This simple journaling prompt should give you a better idea of what you're passionate about and what you are longing to accomplish Take time reflecting on this prompt on paper or mulling it over in your mind until you pinpoint exactly what hobby aligns with your schedule, personality and passions.

4. What did mini-you love?

Another way to discover the hobby of your dream is to look back on what you enjoyed doing as a child. Ask your parents or anyone in your life who knew you as a kiddo what you spent your time doing. If you loved to draw with chalk, experiment with painting large canvas murals. If you were always outside as a child, research hobbies that get you outside (such as hiking, roller skating or gardening!).

5. Prepare for failure

Trying new hobbies can seem daunting. Reality check: When trying new things, there will always be moments of failure. But you *have* to stick with the process! Mistakes aren't always so horrible—they're what help you learn and improve at the end of the day. You've got this!
