I lie too much! I’ve been told to be myself, but I always feel I have to impress people. This summer at camp, I was bursting with lies. I’m pretty good at it, too. People almost always believe me.

Making friends is more important than impressing people. You say that people almost always believe you. That means that sometimes they see right through you—and your claim to be an actor’s girlfriend or musician’s niece.

Friendships thrive on trust, so make today the day you start connecting with people instead of merely holding court. If you do catch yourself exaggerating, just backtrack. Say, “I didn’t literally buy ten outfits—more like two.”
