Dear Carol
"Dear Carol, what's the deal with tanning salons?"
Dear Carol,
I hate being so pale this time of year. I'd like to go to a tanning salon, but my cousin says it will give me cancer. What do you think?
-Tanner Than You
Dear Tanner Than You,
I think you'll be mad at yourself later if you don't take care of yourself today. Accoring to the Skin Cancer Foundation, those who use tanning beds before the age of 35 increase their risk for melanoma (a type of cancer or tumor that begins as a dark spot or area on the skin) by 75 percent. Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for, but you want your body to work for you your whole life. Do yourself a favor and think long-term. Good habits now make for good health, both now and later.
