Dear Carol
Freaked about going to junior high
Dear Scared of Junior High,
A lot of girls feel nervous about a new school year, whether they are going into junior high, high school or fifth grade. Ask your sixth-grade friends if they are feeling jittery (I’m sure some are). And ask any older friends how they made the jump to junior high.
Also, try to visualize success. In other words, instead of picturing mean kids and tough homework assignments, think about how much fun it will be to see your friends all day and how much you like English, art, Spanish or your other favorite courses. Think about any after-school activities that appeal to you. Don’t go overboard—you don’t want to be busy every day. It’s important to have free time for relaxation and homework. But do sign up for a sport or chorus or chess or something because it’s a great way to build new skills and friendships.
As for schoolwork, get the new year off to a flying start by practicing good study habits. This just may be your best year yet!
