LIFE
Dear Carol
I miss all of my camp friends
When I was at camp this summer, I never got homesick. Now that I am home, I am campsick. I loved my camp friends, camp boyfriend, cabin and counselor…and now it’s the same old, same old. Help!
Dear Campsick,
Transitions are hard, and I’m not surprised that you miss the friends and rhythms of camp. It’s natural to feel let down when a trip or vacation is over. Can you keep in touch with a few campers by phone, e-mail or letters? Can you talk to relatives about your feelings? Can you pour memories into a journal or photo collage? It’s great that you had fun this summer and learned that you can navigate the wider world, but it’s time to re-engage in the here-and-now. This school year, try something you’ve never done before (Theater? Sports? Newspaper?). Your classmates have also matured and grown over the summer, so stay open-minded. At school, you’ll be able to make new friends and reconnect with you old ones, too.
