Ho-ho-holiday workout
Boost your heart rate this week (and burn off a few of those
cookie swap calories) with a workout inspired by the Man in Red himself—Santa
Claus! Pick and choose your exercises with care, or do ‘em all.
Up on the housetop, reindeer paws, out jumped good ol’ Santa Claus
Pick up an elastic jump rope and start hopping. Jump as fast as you can consistently can for the length of a song—about three minutes. Slow down for another song, then pick it back up for a third.
On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen!
Toss the rope aside and stand tall with both feet on the
ground. Bend over at the waist until your hands touch the ground, then walk
your hands out ‘til you’re in push-up position. Do a push up, then come back up
and walk your feet forward to meet your hands. As you straighten back to the
first position, jump into the air. Repeat 10 times.
Giddy up, jingle horse, pick up your feet
Put on your best prancing pony expression and get ready to step high. Lunge your way down your driveway, then run back pulling your knees up as high as you can. Continue for three minutes.
Jolly Old St. Nicholas, lean your ear this way
Hold one two-pound weight in each hand. Stand straight, feet
spaced shoulder-length apart, hands by your side. Arch your left arm across
your body and over your head, letting the weight in your right hand pull your
right shoulder down into the stretch. Hold for 10 seconds, then slowly bring
your left arm back to the starting position. Mirror the move using your right
arm, and repeat on each side 10 times.
