How Does Your Garden Grow?
My BFF Aimee planted a huge garden this year and I’m pretty envious of all the greens sprouting in her backyard. Do you and your family grow fruits or vegetables at home?
Sadly, I’m a couple hundred miles away and can’t try out the garden’s goodies (she’s got lettuces, broccoli, herbs and bushels more). When we were kids, her grandparents grew loads of fruits and veggies—Aim would whip up peach tarts and we’d nibble on rhubarb straight outta the ground. YUM!
Here in Baltimore, a couple of my friends grow vegetables on their porches—or even in their driveways. Sadly, my thumb isn’t green, so I skipped being a garden girl this year. I’ve been stocking up on funky fruits at the market, like pluots (that’s plums + apricots in an awesome hybrid) and white peaches, and more green beans and tomatoes than I can write about (I even ate purple cherry tomatoes—gotta love designer produce).
It’s so easy to munch nutritious foods in midsummer. This year, I’m gonna make a list of my fave healthy summer snacks (including these popsicles http://www.girlslife.com/post/2009/07/09/Ed-Blog.aspx) and meals. When it’s hot cocoa season, I’m gonna whip out my notes, put down the Christmas cookie and remember how tasty a crisp salad can be on a hot day. Pass the iced tea!
Blog it out...Do you like to garden? Does anyone in your fam grow their own veggies? What are your fave summer foods?
