Tea Party
Tea is in.
Last week my friend organized a tea party for our group of friends. We all went to her house, dressed up in cute summer frocks, listened to classical music and made lots of tea (which we drank along with delish cookies and biscuits). It was such a creative way to mix it up on an otherwise dull summer day.
The eight of us had tons of fun trying out the different types--some loved the fruity ones and some liked the classic English Breakfast-type blends. I recommend it if you and your gals are looking for something to do. Some of my pals were hesitant--they’re not big tea fans--but one thing we learned after the tea party was that there are so many blends and you’re bound to find one you love.
Here at GL we’re all about tea because it’s super healthy and light, so I recently tried a white tea from Teavana called “Snow Geisha. It had cherries and pink rose buds that created a very fruity aroma (a bunch of girls in the office commented on how fragrant it smelled).
It’s easy to make a steaming cup of any tea, whether bagged or loose-leaf (just use a strainer!), and it’s so calming to sit back with a hot cup of tea. Just don’t brew it for too long or it’ll taste a little bitter (instructions come with most teas). I liked this blend a lot; it was fruity and fragrant but not too overpowering.
White tea is great is you’re not a big tea drinker--it has little to no caffeine and a light flavor. Added bonus? It’s got tons of antioxidants and is excellent for your skin and complexion. I also suggest Oolong if you want something with a more mild flavor (you may have had it before at Chinese restaurants); it’s also known for helping with weight-loss.
Or try black, green, or herbal teas. Just pay attention to whether the tea you pick is caffeinated--it won’t keep you up as much as coffee does but it’s still best to avoid drinking it late at night.
But, after all, we’re right in the middle of the hottest summer months, so iced tea is a great alternative to the same ol’ lemonade you’ve had in your glass all summer (follow the same directions for brewing but use double the amount of tea). So give iced tea a try when you’re looking for something refreshing on a hot day, or try a steaming cup of a comforting blend once the weather cools down.
Blog it out! Do you like tea or want to give it a try? What’s your fave blend that you recommend?
