6 healthy snacks to munch on at your summer job
Let’s be real, if you have a summer job, it can be super tempting to pack chips and candy as a work snack. It’s hard to stay healthy while you’re busy at work, no matter if you’re working as a camp counselor or interning in an office. Plus, sometimes healthy snacks like granola bars and carrot sticks can get a little boring. Spice up your snacking routine with these healthy (not to mention delish) snacks.
If you’re working as a lifeguard, try frozen fruit!
Spending lots of time outside leaves you feeling dehydrated, so snack on fruit to get back on track. If you have access to a freezer, fill a bag with grapes, blueberries, watermelon...your choice! They all taste delicious frozen and will help keep you cool and give you the sugar you’ve been craving. If you’re feeling extra fancy, check out this recipe for frozen watermelon kabobs.
If you're a camp counselor, grab trail mix!
Chasing around those kids can leave you exhausted, which means you need some protein to boost your energy. Try putting together a trail mix: Start by mixing nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios or peanuts are all good choices), dried fruit, grains (we like popcorn, pretzels or whole-grain cereal) and maybe even some sunflower or pumpkin seeds. Don’t forget to #treatyourself by adding a few sweets like M&Ms or chocolate chips, too. Need some trail mix inspo? Check out these healthy but delish ideas. And this one sure is pretty if you're looking for a sweet treat.
If you're working in an office, munch on these special chips!
An office job could mean lots of time spent sitting around doing paperwork or working on the computer. In between breaks, snack on some veggie chips instead of greasy potato chips. You’ll still get the satisfying crunch of your favorite BBQ chips, with less calories and fats. While storebought brands are delish, you can try making your own with your fave veggies with this fab recipe.
If you're babysitting, share this healthy dip!
What kid doesn't love to dunk a crunchy chip into a creamy dip? Set a healthy example by choosing hummus instead of ranch. Hummus is super versatile and can pair with anything from carrots to pretzels. You can buy tons of different types of hummus to find a flavor that you love, or try your hand at making your own from this list.
If you’re working at the mall, indulge without the guilt!
Skip out on hitting up the food court and try bringing along some healthy, homemade sweets. This recipe for chocolate chip blondies uses ingredients you probably already have at home, plus doesn’t require any baking. *So* easy.
