Healthy add-ins that make our favorite bites even tastier
The dish: Steaming hot oatmeal
The choice: Dried fruit. And for a dash of creamy goodness, stir in a splash of 2 percent milk.
The drink: Hot cocoa
The choice: Ground nutmeg. Freshly ground is wonderfully aromatic, but pre-ground is easy and just as delicious.
The dish: Peanut butter sandwich
The choice: Sweet apple slices. Opt for the juiciest fruits you can find!
The dish: Chop salad
The choice: Cottage cheese. It’s lean and packed with protein, and if the texture bugs you when it’s solo, you won’t even notice if it’s in a salad.
The dish: Hummus
The choice: Fresh veggies. Pita is awesome, don’t get us wrong, but freshly chopped peppers, carrots and celery? Yummy and way good for you.
The dish: Yogurt
The choice: Fresh fruit. A tip? Get plain Greek yogurt and smush some fresh fruit with a spoon or cut it up into little pieces. Stir it in, and you’re flavoring your yogurt minus all the weird chemicals some companies put into it.
The dish: Couscous
The choice: Herbs and chopped nuts. Try different combos, like almonds and parsley or pistachios and mint.
The dish: Mac ‘n’ cheese
The choice: Caramelized onion. Sautee it until it starts to brown, then toss it in and bake until the cheese is bubbly.
