Bite into National Watermelon Day with this cute recipe

There's nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a juicy fresh watermelon. And since today is National Watermelon Day, we've found the most creative recipe to take your watermelon to the next level. Try this DIY for carving your own melon shark bowl and impress all your friends!

What you'll need:

Whole watermelon
Large knife
Dry erase marker
Assorted other fruits of your choice

Directions:

1. Wash the watermelon.

2. Cut one end of it at an angle.

3. Sketch the mouth opening using a dry erase marker: it should be in the shape of a football around the stem mark on the rind.

4. Cut the traced opening.

5. Trim mouth opening for teeth. The outline should be ½ inch around the mouth opening.

6. Scoop out the watermelon fruit (set this aside to use later).

7. Cut a triangle pattern into the white rind around the mouth to create teeth.

8. Using the mouth cut off for the fin, attach it to the back of the shark using toothpicks to secure its place.

9. Fill the shark: cut the watermelon you scooped out earlier into cubes, and add your favorite fruits like blueberries, apples or cantaloupe.

10. Use a melon baller to scoop out the eye socket. Place a blueberry or a grape inside for the eyeball.

11. Fill the bowl with the fruit salad mix and dive in.
