Popcorn for all! Big screen nibbles for the ball drop

Looking for a delish snack you can make yourself? Cookbook author and blogger Janet Groene calls it “gorp.” You might know it as kibble, scroggin or pink buggie, but we’re callin’ in trail mix.

Janet has bunches of recipes on her blog, createagorp.blogspot.com, but here’s one of our faves. Curling up in front of the tube with your besties? Whether it’s a middle-of-the-week sleepover or a New Year’s Eve countdown party, this recipe will cure even the pickiest case of the munchies.

Ingredients:

2 packets of your fave movie-style microwave popcorn, popped (that’s about 8 cups)

1 cup roasted, unsalted whole almonds

2 cups large, unsalted whole peanuts

1 cup of your fave movie theater candy (Dots, nonpareils, M&Ms, etc.)

Directions:

Pop corn and cool it completely. Put in a big bag with nuts and candy, shake gently to mix and scoop out by the cupful. Package in individual snack or sandwich bags. Makes 12 one-cup portions.

Sure, you could serve it in a big bowl, but that’ll lead to binging. To control your portions, try giving each girl a bowl or mug of her own. For cutesy cinema appeal, try putting a scoop in a paper bag and folding over the top.
