How to make cut off denim shorts

Distressed denim cut offs are everything this summer. So when we found The Wonder Forest's birilliant DIY, we had to share. They're super easy to make and can elevate any outfit to style star status. Read the directions below to make your own—and find a pair of trendy flatform sandals to match those hot new shorts.

What you’ll need:

  • Pair of jeans
  • Scissors
  • Magazine
  • Tweezers
  • Razor

What you’ll do:

Step 1: Lay your jeans down on a flat surface.

Step 2: Decide what length you’d like your shorts to be, then cut an inch or two below that. (Remember you can always cut off more fabric, but you can’t add fabric back on!)

Step 3: Try the shorts on to check if you have met your desired length.

Step 4: Once you’ve got the perfect length, decide where you want your worn out holes to be.

Step 5: Put a magazine in between the pant leg of the shorts to insure that you don’t cut through both sides.

Step 6: Cut several slits about a centimeter apart.

Step 7: Between the slits, use your tweezers to pull out all of the vertical blue thread pieces, leaving only the horizontal white threads. This will create a perfectly distressed hole.

Step 8: Repeat this process until you have created your desired amount of distressed holes.

Step 9: Go along the top of your pockets with the razor to expose the threads, and use the tweezers to pull out the threads for a more dramatic look.

Step 10: Once you are satisfied with the level of distressing, wash your shorts—and get ready to sport one of summers hottest trends!
