Halloween costumes inspired by 1989 (Taylor's Version)

Halloween and the release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) are overlapping holidays this year—why not celebrate both occasions with some 1989-era-inspired costumes? That way, when the certified party girl anthem "New Romantics (Taylor's Version)" blares at your Halloweekend haunt, you'll be perfectly dressed to sing and dance along. And yes, we do have 13 for you to choose from.

Dynamic duo: Old Taylor and new Taylor

Part of the joy of Taylor Swift's re-recordings is in how she accompanies each re-recording with a rebranding-slash-repackaging of the album aesthetic. 1989 (Taylor's Version) is no exception, with Taylor really leaning into the breezy beach aesthetic this time, rather than setting the scene in a glittering cityscape like she did with the original album.

If you want to do a bestie costume, one of you could dress according to the 1989 era and one of you could dress according to the 1989 (Taylor's Version) era. Think sunglasses for the city bestie and white linens for the beach bestie.

"Blank Space" Taylor

There are few things more iconic than "Blank Space" Taylor. The music video has *so* many great looks for Halloween, and this one might just be the best. You just need a black outfit with a black lace eye mask. Oh, and cherry lips plus a plush cat for your arm.

"A nightmare dressed like a daydream"

We told you this music video had Halloween costume inspo galore. This one is especially great for the last-minute girlies, because all you need is a bottle of mascara (to smear down your face) and a glamorous, animal print dress (check Goodwill for a thrifted option!).

*The* 1989 concert costume

When you think of 1989 Taylor, you probably think of this famous tour look. It's easy to DIY with black ribbon, a white coordinating set and tall black boots. You'll be dressed to strut along to "I Know Places (Taylor's Version)" on your Halloween candy hunt.

It's blue!

@tstourtips

Remember when Taylor Swift announced 1989 (Taylor's Version) at the Eras Tour? Thrilling. That night she debuted lots of blue tour looks to celebrate, and recreating her 1989 look with a sparkly blue set is the perfect costume idea.

Red carpet Taylor

Taylor Swift won the award for Album of the Year for 1989 at the Grammy's, and she wore one of her best red carpet looks ever to accept the honor. It's also fairly simple to recreate as a costume for Halloween—all you'll need is an orange tube top and pink skirt. Fierce bob is optional.

"Are we out of the woods yet?"

Taylor's "Out of The Woods" music video is one of fantasy-like adventure and scenery. It's perf for spooky season inspo. For your costume, just find a flowing dress in a whimsical blue hue. Then, pair it with a silver necklace to reference the lyric "your necklace hanging from my neck" and Taylor's dramatic toss from the cliffs in the video.

Movie star Taylor

We all envision Taylor with blonde hair, but do you remember when she rocked a darker hair color in the "Wildest Dreams" music video? Her red carpet look in this video is a fab costume option for the girls who love to go the glam route on Halloween. The main necessities are a fabulous dress, fluffy shawl and retro-style wig.

"Shake It Off" Taylor

This could be a fun spin on a typical cheerleader costume. DIY-ing the "TS" logo onto the uniform makes this iconic fit more Taylor-slash-1989 themed.

"Bad Blood" Taylor

All Swifties could agree that 1989 produced some of Taylor's best music videos to date. This one follows that pattern—Taylor stuns with a video cast of superstars in several incredible outfits. One of the best and most famous looks is at the video's conclusion, when Taylor shows off fiery red hair. If you don't have red hair, make sure to get a bright wig to pair with a black leather superhero suit.

Belly Conklin

@jennyhan

You might be a *little* confused, but do you remember how we heard some of the first bits of 1989 (Taylor's Version)? It was in The Summer I Turned Pretty! To reference that and *the* show of the summer, you could dress up as Belly Conklin. Specifically, you could copy her outfit from the scene during which "This Love (Taylor's Version)" played (which also happened to be when Belly kissed the biggest crush of her life, but NBD). If you have a Conrad Fisher of your own, this also makes for a super cute couple's costume.

Also, Belly's outfit totally *screams* 1989 (Taylor's Version), right?

"I'll be 87 you'll be 89" (as in 1989?)

Speaking of couple's costumes, you could reference the football game that nearly broke the internet this year. Taylor was even sporting a "red lip classic" during the game, making this 1989-appropriate.

Seagull

Amazon, $34

Because, duh. Taylor Swift may be endlessly stylish, but who says you can't do a silly 1989 costume? Seagulls are sort of a symbol of 1989 as an era, and they are pictured on the album cover. Cute, cozy, comedic: What's not to love?
