Letting go of a crush: what to do when it's time to move on

Everyone has a crush. That sweetie you think about nonstop and get butterflies when you talk to the,…yeah, that’s a crush. Unfortunately, though, no matter how much we daydream or practice writing "Mrs. Mendes" in our journals (yeah, we're lookin' at you, Shawn!), things just don’t always work out the way we want them to. Whether they met someone else or you finally realized they aren't into you, letting go of a crush can be very hard. We know just what you gotta do, though, babe:

Avoid thinking about them.
OK, so this may be a hard one, but the number one way to get over a crush is to clear your mind of them. Sometimes we fill our heads with all of these ideas about a crush and when they don’t come true it can be tough to deal. A good distraction is key. Instead of sitting home thinking about them, go out and meet some new people. Who knows, maybe you'll even find a new crush!

Keep your distance.
It’s time to move on, and that means it may be time to stop talking with them 24/7. Try to avoid texting your crush all the time like you used to. If they're not interested then the constant texts that you send them may be a bit much. We know it may be hard to hear, but they don't need to be your #1 on Snapchat anymore, either. Seeing their face (even if it’s only for 10 seconds) will make it way more difficult to get over your feelings.

Let yourself be sad.
Even though you weren’t actually in a relationship with them, it’s still OK to be sad. Turn up those Taylor Swift tunes and get yourself a pint of ice cream. The feeling of rejection can be really hard to face, so give yourself some time to grieve.

Talk to a BFF about it.
Sometimes we all need a good ol’ vent session with our BFF. Sit down and talk to your bestie about the feelings you are having. Maybe you need to let it all out, or maybe she can give you some great advice on how to move on. Either way, spending time with friends is a great way to get over someone.

Remember you are awesome.
Who needs a crush anyway? It is important not to take this personal and remember how great you are. When the right crush comes along, they will love everything about you.
