Must List

Tegan Marie's new track is your new song of the summer

She's also spilling deets on her upcoming video!

Tegan Marie is here and ready to rock your world with her empowering new anthem, “I Know How To Make A Boy Cry." But don't worry, it's not as harsh as the title implies.

“A funny thing about the song is that it’s not really about making boys cry, and it's not really about being mean," the 14-year-old explains. “It’s about taking the high road and sticking up for yourself.”

An amazing message, and the perfect reminder for girls everywhere to stand tall and being the bigger person. She said it's as she explains is “a modern day sticks and stones may break my bones” vibe.

And that might have been inspired by all the #girlpower artists she's been jamming to.

"'Never Be The Same' by Camila Cabello is just—I just love that beat. And she just came out with a version of her and Kane Brown singing it, and oh my gosh, it's so good," she gushes. "I can't get enough of Kacey Musgraves new album either. Both of them are so inspiring."

She wrote the track with Taylor Swift's frequent collaborator
When it came time to hit the studio, Tegan called on Taylor Swift's co-writer, Nathan Chapman. He helped craft Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, so you *know* this track is going to be a hit!

"I'll kind of fangirl over how he got to write with those certain people— its just pretty crazy to think about him writing with Taylor and now he's writing with me," she says. “I would love to like go back in that session and just watch us create the song because it was such, it was such an amazing experience. Such a rush!”

Her makeup inspired her favorite line
The song's bridge features the best line in the whole song, if you ask us, anyway: "Do what you got to do. My mascara’s waterproof. Say what you gotta say. No black lines running down my face." And Tegan agrees! “I think that part was one of the key lyrics that makes it this modern day 'sticks and stones may break my bones but your words will never hurt me.'"

Flip the switch: taking inspiration from a guy's world and making it her own
Her music video is being filmed this weekend! Drawing her inspiration from Elvis Presley, she’s going full out. Recreating scenes from Elvis’ 68 Special, and recreating his iconic Elvis letters with her own name, she can’t wait and neither can we!

Check out her new song today! We love it, and we know you’ll love it too!
