Skateboarder Alana Smith shows girl power in a male-dominant sport

Happy International Day of the Girl. To help celebrate, Disney Channel is airing a new girl-power story as part of their Make Your Mark campaign, the interstitial series that showcases kids and teens from around the country who are making a difference in their communities and the world.

We already told you about 16-year-old Mallory Kievman who is making her mark on the world with Hiccupops. Now, meet one 13-year-old who is just as inspiring.

Alana Smith from Mesa, Arizona is one of the few girls in a male-dominated sport. Alana started skateboarding at just 7 years old and has gone so far, she's made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest medalist in X Games history. Amazing! Not only does this chick prove she can do anything when she’s on a board, she’s encouraging others out there to express what they’re good at, no matter what others think.

Check out Alana’s story below…

Be sure to tune in to Disney Channel for more stories from other amazing teens that are featured in their 2014 edition of Make Your Mark.

Talk about girl power! Check out this other amazing gal, Malala Yousafzai, who has just become the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize.
