Lucy Hale tells us about the Road Between

Lucy Hale’s sparkling smile has graced the cover of GL twice already, and yet we still can’t get enough of this gal. You know her as Aria on Pretty Little Liars, but now it’s time to get to know Lucy as a rising country star. ‘Cause when her debut album hits shelves June 3, GL is positive that’s exactly what Lucy is bound to become.

Lucy confessed to GL, “This is a pretty good inside look into the person that I am and am becoming.” Wanna know our thoughts? Check out our note-by-note recap of Lucy Hale’s album Road Between.

“You Sound Good to Me”

You already know and love this single, but it feels so much different as an album opener. It’s definitely a catchy, feel-good start to her record—and her music career in general. You sound so good to us, Lucy!

Watch the music video below…

“From the Backseat”

This tune has a little bit of nostalgia thrown into it. Lucy talks about learning the ins and outs of love from her parents while riding in the backseat (hence the title!), and then uses all of those lessons in love as a teen. There’s so much vivid imagery that it would make so much sense if Lucy made this song her next single.

“Nervous Girl”

When it comes down to it, we’re our own worst enemy, and Lucy seems to completely understand that. Even as a gorgeous actress who rocks red carpets on the reg, she explains through her honest lyrics that she still gets down on herself from time to time. She even sings, “I’m that girl that’s just like you.” Talk about relatable, right?

“Red Dress”

Lucy shakes things up by featuring country music artist Joe Nichols on this track. They might be singing about something as simple as missing a person and a memory, but their voices flow together so well that the song goes to an entirely new level. We’d love to hear more Lucy throughout the song, but a li’l collaboration never hurt anybody.

“Goodbye Gone”

We’re pretty sure every country girl record needs a “bad girl” song on it, and this one is Lucy’s. She has so much sass that it kinda takes us back to the days we used to belt out “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. Even better, Lucy’s voice goes places we’ve never heard her go before. Her talent has us totally impressed.

“Kiss Me”

Getting over an ex is no easy task, and it’s even more difficult when you two are still running into each other. But that’s exactly what Lucy sings about in this song. She wrote this one with songwriting pro Lindy Robbins (you have her to thank for Demi’s “Skyscraper” and tons of 1D tracks). The chorus simply repeats, “Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me.” Add this song on a playlist for your crush and they’ll totally get it.

“Road Between”

No matter how old we are or where we are in life, we’re all still learning about ourselves. Lucy might be in the middle of the madness, but she knows she’s on her way to the good part. Lucy spilled to GL that this track is her theme song at the moment!

“Lie a Little Better”

You know those days when things just aren’t going well? We all have them, but they’re made better by our loving friends and family. There’s some piano, and even some unexpected organ, too! Plus, the chorus is super catchy, and we’re suckers for that.

“That’s What I Call Crazy”

Lucy penned the lyrics to this song with the help of the lovely Kacey Musgraves. About her album, Lucy told GL, “A certain person I was dating really became the inspiration for some songs for the album. All the craziness that went into dating him was worth it because of the material we had to draw from!” Hmm, could Lucy be talking about her ex-BF Chris?

“Love Tonight”

Got a summer fling? This is the song for you. The lesson is a simple: go out, live your life and have fun! And if you love a little bit of tambourine (who doesn’t?!), that’s even more reason to press play as soon as you pick up Lucy’s album.

“Just Another Song”

Beware, GL girls, because the lyrics to this get emotional. On top of that, the strings and the drums add a ton of drama to the track. It would have been nice to hear something a little uplifting to close out the album, but it’s impossible to ignore how well written this song is.

No doubt, this album is one of a kind. We know what we’re gonna be listening to at the GL HQ all summer long.
