Let's recap Olivia Rodrigo's amazing accomplishments while we wait for Guts
Calling all Livies! Who else is excited for Guts? We know we (1 million percent) are. In the meantime, let's recap all of Liv's amazing accomplishments from the beginning of her career to now. From singing competitions in her childhood to becoming a Disney Channel star, we're breaking down Olivia's inspiring journey of becoming a household name in the music industry.
Early childhood
Olivia grew up in the suburbs of California. She started taking vocal lessons in kindergarten and performed at local competitions and talent shows. You may have seen a few of those viral vids of her singing as a child on YouTube (so adorable!).
Her big break
Olivia got her first big acting gig at 12 years old. She starred as the titular character, Grace Thomas, in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success. The movie is based on the American Girl Doll of the Year in 2015. It's about a girl who experiences the summer of a lifetime in Paris and uses her baking skills to save her grandparents' bakery.
Disney days
In 2016, Olivia starred alongside her now BFF, Madison Hu, in the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark. There, she became a Disney Channel darling—following in the footsteps of other musicians such as Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Sabrina Carpenter and more. She went on to star in the Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (HSMTMTS) as the lead character, Nini Salazar-Roberts.
The beginning notes to her melody
Liv's unforgettable talents have been powerfully present in every one of her jobs. While acting in HSMTMTS, she wrote the song "All I Want" in literally 3 days. Yes. 3 days. Speechless.
In this song, Liv expresses the love-life dilemma of Nini, and it captivated the world. This breakthrough would only be just the "Start of Something New."
Her first major hit
"drivers license." The song that had us all in tears, crying along to the heartbreak anthem back in January of 2021.
With over 1.8 billion (and counting!) plays on Spotify, this song absolutely took over and hit #1 on the Billboard charts in just one week. "drivers license" would also have Liv win the Grammy award for Best Pop Solo Performance, just one of three Grammy award-winning moments for her (so far) in just two years after the song's release.
SOUR era
Words cannot express how excited the world was to hear that Olivia Rodrigo would be coming out with her first album, SOUR. And. It. Was. Incredible.
With hits such as "happier," "good 4 u," "traitor" and more, Liv's audience expanded and was blown away by her astonishing talent. Her "driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)" documentary was released on Disney+, and she toured with her songs for the very first time.
Liv also won the Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for SOUR, in addition to a super long list of AMAs, VMAs, People's Choice Awards and other notable titles.
Liv is back!
Olivia released her single "vampire" on June 30 this year, and the crowd went wild. She then announced that her second album, Guts, would be released in September. We're counting down the days rn!
