Taylor Swift just dropped her tenth album, Midnights
After too many sleepless nights to count, the day is finally here: Taylor Swift has officially dropped her tenth studio album, Midnights. When the clock struck 12 on Oct. 21, Taylor released Midnights to widespread acclaim—but a surprise awaited Swifties just hours later. Whether you've been streaming the album since, well, midnight, or you've been hitting the "snooze" button and have yet to check it out, we have *everything* you need to know about Midnights right here.
The magic of Midnights
Moving away from the indie, folk-rock sound of folklore and evermore, Midnights sees Taylor transitioning back to pure pop—in, ofc, the most fabulous way possible. She described the album on Twitter as "a collage of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows," encapsulating *all* the complicated feelings that come with life, which "can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic or lonely," just like Midnights itself. Her main co-collaborator on the album was Jack Antonoff, who has also produced tons of fan-favorite tracks, from "Cruel Summer" to "august."
Inspired by "13 sleepless nights" in Taylor's life, the album takes listeners on "a journey through terrors and sweet dreams" which, according to Taylor herself, is inspired by themes including self-hatred, revenge and reflecting on what could have been, as well as the highs and lows that come with falling in love and falling apart. You can jam out to its chill pop sound when you're at a party with all your besties *and* when you're alone in your room at night, journaling your deepest thoughts. (And we're so here for the versatility.)
The 3am version
And as if a new album wasn't exciting enough, three hours later, Taylor dropped a "special very chaotic surprise": Midnights (3am Edition), a new, 20-track version of the album. This includes an additional 7 songs that were written on the "journey to find the magic 13," as Taylor wrote on Instagram. Now, you can listen to the new-and-improved version of Midnights with these sparkling seven additions. Brb, putting this on repeat until midnight (or, OK, maybe 3am).
