Yara Shahidi is the new Tinkerbell and we're so excited
2020 has been a busy year for Yara Shahidi. Her beloved spin-off series, Grown-ish, was renewed for a fourth season this January, she launched her own production studio back in July, and she’s been heavily involved in the BLM movement, all while attending Harvard University. Shahidi’s latest adventure, however, will take her all the way to Neverland, because the 20-year old actress has just been cast as the iconic fairy, Tinkerbell!
The grown-ish twitter account first broke the news on September 25th, tweeting “Sprinkle that fairy dust all over this news. @YaraShahidi as Tinkerbell in @disney's upcoming live-action #PeterPanandWendy.”

Shahidi confirmed this news by posting a selfie in a Tinkerbell inspired fit, captioned “lettssssgooooo 🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️ #Tinkerbell ”. She was quickly congratulated by recent Emmy winner Zendaya, Grand Slam champ Naomi Osaka, and VMA show-stealers ChloeXHalle. Fans were also quick to create fan art, imagining how Shahidi’s interpretation of the fairy will look. Shahidi reposted this artwork by fan @alexcollectsofficial
Not much information has been released about the upcoming remake. The titular roles will be played by young actors Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, and Oscar nominee Jude Law will be playing Captain Hook. The movie is rumored to premiere exclusively on Disney+, so you'll be able to watch this grand adventure from the comfort of your own living room! Meanwhile, this is us waiting to see the production stills:
