How to celebrate the International Day of the Girl!
October 11 is the International Day of the Girl, and it's all about celebrating what it means to be a girl and recognizing ways we can continue to strive for equality for the next gen. It absolutely cannot go uncelebrated, so whether your plans are big or small, Girls' Life has you covered.
Join an event!
The official site for the International Day of the Girl has an awesome feature where you can type in your zip to get details on events happening near you. Nothing nearby? Join a digital event, like Girls Who Code's #MarchForSisterhood. Take a vid of yourself marching (you can even strut in the hallway at home or in school!), then upload it to Insta using #MarchForSisterhood.
Watch a girl power movie.
There are so many amazing options for this one. Our faves? The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Legally Blonde, Mulan, Now & Then...the list goes on! Pick a flick where girls rule, curl up with a bowl of popcorn and get ready to be totally inspired by the end of the movie.
Volunteer at your local women’s shelter.
You can get a few friends together and give back to your community. This is a day about lifting up other girls, and this is a great way to connect with those who may need a little extra help.
Write your friends some Galentine's notes!
Let's face it: It can be hard to be a girl sometimes, and we all have blah days. While it may not be Valentine's Day, we can celebrate our Galentines every day of the year. Get creative and make some cute and person-specific notes to pass out to your friends.
Help out a younger girl.
Whether it's a little sis, neighbor or cousin, we bet there's a younger girl in your life who *really* looks up to you. Set aside some time for her today—paint each other's nails, give her a tutoring session, whatever! The quality time will make her day for sure.
Show some Insta love
It’s super quick and easy to make an Instagram post. Just include in the caption what you love about being a girl and, of course, encourage your friends to do so, too! Be sure to tag @girlslife so we can see how you’re celebrating.
What do you love most about being a girl? Tell us in the comments!
