LIFE
Dear Carol
"Dear Carol, I found my dream school but...it's five hours away what do I do?"
Dear Carol,
Recently, I took a trip with my best friend to her hometown. While we were there, we got on the topic of high school with her mom. She told me about this fantastic day school not far from where we were and we even talked about living arrangements. The only problem was that the school is five hours away from where I live now, and there is no boarding. I went online, and it is the perfect school for me. The tuition is great, the clubs are great and the mission is great. It is my dream school. Where I live now, there are no really good high schools. I want our plan to work, but I don’t know how to ask my friend’s mom if she was being serious. Plus, I don’t want to make life harder for either set of parents.
- New School
Dear New School,
It’s admirable to be thinking about your education. But five hours is a lot, so it’s unlikely that your friend’s family will truly be able to welcome you into theirs or that your family would be OK with that. Start researching day schools closer to home or boarding schools whose culture and tuition might work for you. If you can make a change, go for it. But if you can’t, resolve to start the new school year with open eyes. I bet there are clubs and classes you hadn’t noticed as well as new friends (maybe older or younger) to be made.
