Dear Carol
"Dear Carol, what if my parents get divorced?"
Dear Carol,
My parents have been fighting a lot. I'm usually asleep, but I wake up when I hear them. I'm afraid they're going to get a divorce.
–Concerned Daughter
Dear Concerned Daughter,
There's not much a girl can do when her parents fight. It helps to know that while their problems affect you, they are not caused by you. And some fighting is natural. You and your siblings or friends may quarrel one day and get along the next. But please know that in some cases, a divorce may be better than endless shouting. Try not to become the confidante of either parent. If one trashes the other, say, "I know you need to vent, but I don't want to hear about that." Both parents will appreciate extra smiles or hugs from you now. Hang in there. Can you arrange a sleepover or getaway?
