Your Bod
"What in the world is this black stuff in my undies?"
OK, I'm kind of freaking out. When I went to the bathroom this morning, I saw this black, goopy stuff in my underwear. I've never seen it before and I haven't had my period yet--is this it? If not, will I get it soon? Help!
No need to freak, babe. This is likely the precursor to your real period, your monthly visit from Aunt Flo. The black stuff is just dried blood—we know, not fun to think about, but not an emergency, either, we promise. As your body starts gearing up for your menstrual cycle, sometimes it takes time for it to push the old blood and discharge out. As the old blood oxygenizes, it turns black. Simple science!
If you keep seeing it and don't wanna ruin your favorite pair of panties, try slipping in a thin pantiliner you can toss when you hit the loo. Easy.
