8 easy ways to get in your 8 fruits and veggies a day
Whoa—major news. Turns out, people who eat eight servings of fruits and veggies a day are healthier than those who only nosh five. Here’s how to sneak in a ton more of those nutrient-packed goodies into your diet.
1. Swap juice for fruit at breakfast. Consider adding veggies to your first meal as well. Spinach in your eggs is an easy place to start.
2. Skip by crackers and make apples and PB your mid-morning snack.
3. Make your lunch exotic with a side of tropical fruit, like mango or papaya slices.
4. Ditch the roast beef sandwich. Instead, fill a Thermos with vegetable soup or chili. Eat it with a side of carrot sticks, instead of tortilla strips.
5. Craving chocolate after school? Pass by the cookies and dunk a banana in Nutella instead. Or, skip the chocolate-y stuff and just eat some fruit.
6. Double up your veggies at dinner. Make it a nightly challenge to load your plate with green lettuce, red peppers and broccoli before you add meat or pasta.
7. Learn to veggify your meat-filled faves. Instead of lasagna with beef, try this spinach-filled version.
8. Promise yourself fruit will be your dessert, at least a few nights a week. Sitting down an appreciating all that nature serves up is way sweeter than gulping store-bought cupcakes. Really!
