Eat Right
Are you sure that's healthy?
We all have a mental checklist of healthy foods and ones that aren't so good for us. Truth is, there are a few foods out there (we're looking at you, yogurt!) that seem healthier than they are. We’re not saying that these foods are nutritional nightmares, but sometimes you’re getting more than you bargained for.
Here are a few offenders...and how to swap them for better-for-ya picks.
Yogurt is a great source of calcium, but some yogurts out there are loaded with sugar. This doesn’t mean you should stop eating it, though. It has important nutrients in it that will give you great energy. Stick to plain varieties and cut your own fruit into it or add a dash of honey or granola.
We know you've heard the old "don't drink soda" lecture more than a few times. Truth is, switching to diet soda isn’t a better solution. Sure they have 0 calories and 0 grams of fat, but it isn’t as perfect as it sounds. Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners that can mess with your metabolism and make you crave sugar like crazy. Water is obv a great alternative, but if you’re looking for something with flavor, try brewed iced tea or juice and seltzer.
Eating green is super healthy, whether it’s green beans, celery or lettuce. So when you go out to a restaurant and you’re looking for a healthy meal, you totally go for a yummy salad right? We’re warning you now, those loaded restaurant salads aren’t as healthy as you may think they are. They are usually huge portions, the chicken is usually breaded, and they throw on so much dressing and croutons that you may as well order a plate of fries. So next time you want a salad out at dinner, ask for a smaller portion, substitute the breaded chicken for grilled chicken or salmon, and ask for dressing (go for oil and vinegar) on the side.
