Why you and your bae don't *have* to wear couple's costumes

While it’s super cute when a couple puts together a peanut butter and jelly costume or Minnie and Mickey look for Halloween, actually dressing up in tandem with your S/O for Halloween is not mandatory. If you and your partner aren’t really feeling up to the whole couple's costumes thing, that’s OK! You don’t have to do it *just* because others will.

In fact, here are a few reasons why it’s totally okay for the two of you to do your own thing, costume-wise:

1. You can both dress up as whatever you want. It’s hard to agree on costume ideas with anyone, even if you and your bae are usually on the same page. Halloween should be about dressing up as whoever you want, and it kind of stinks having to compromise when you had something else in mind. No need to match = freedom to masquerade.

2. Halloween shopping is a *lot* easier. It’s tough enough putting together your own costume without having to deal with someone else’s as well. What if he can’t find an essential piece to his costume when you’ve already got yours together, or vice versa? Making or finding costumes together could totally be fun, but there's something equally as special as getting decked out solo.

3. It doesn’t make you any less of a couple. So Tracy and her BF are dressing up as Harley Quinn and the Joker and their costumes are on *point*—it doesn’t make you and your bae lesser than them. Actually, we'll let you in on a little secret: It might even mean that you two are more secure in your relationship because you're not flaunting it. And TBH, you two can take just as cute an Insta dressed up as a witch and a fireman.

That all being said, if you and your boo want to rock it as Eleven and Mike form Stranger Things or Danny and Sandy from Grease, go for it! There's nothing wrong with being matchy matchy, so long as it's what you want.
