5 tips for introducing your BF to your overprotective brothers

So you and your crush have made it official—yay! He’s been a total sweetie to you and you want your family to meet him. Great! Although you’re super excited, you’re also totally freaked because you’re going beyond meeting the rents…he’s meeting your overprotective bros. We got real siblings to share some tips on how to have a superb boyfriend-meets-brothers event.
Find something they have in common
“Usually, all guys like some sports, video games, and food. If you find something they both have in common, incorporate it into their meeting somehow. It will make everyone feel more comfortable.” – Michael, 15, 3 sisters
Go out of your house
Having your BF’s first meeting with your overprotective bros at your house might heighten the tension. Your sibs will feel like they have more authority at home and your boyfriend will feel extra uncomfortable. Maybe you live close to an awesome ice cream shop, or near a mall or national park. Find a public place where you can take your BF and your brothers out for a fun time. This way, both sides will be on neutral territory—and will have such a good time, they’ll be friends before you know it.
Prepare
“It would be nice if my sister talked to me about it beforehand. I think it would be more awkward if I didn’t know anything and then, boom, there’s this stranger. If she tells me before I meet him that she is seeing someone and she really likes him and maybe shares some things about him, it will be better when he comes around.” – Julian, 14, 1 sister

Include your parents
Whether it’s the first time your parents are also meeting this guy or not, having them around can make things easier. Your parents will know when your brothers are being too overprotective and will give them “the look” to stop before it gets awkward. Not to mention they know a thing or two about facilitating conversations between everyone, which makes them an added plus.

Stay Calm
“I think it would be important for my sister to be calm. If she’s anxious, then that would make me anxious, too. She should feel comfortable around all of us.” – Sebastian, 16, 1 sister
