Meeting the BF's fam for the first time? 6 tips to wow his 'rents
1. Dress nicely, but not too fancy.
You always want to make a good first impression when meeting the ‘rents, but don’t give off the impression that you’re stuck up. A cute blouse and jeans or a casual dress is great for the first dinner. Unless you’re going to a fancy restaurant, there’s no reason to go all out. Show them your cute style and they’ll adore you.
2. Bring something to add to dinner.
Are they cooking out at the house? Bring a salad or some beverages to enjoy with everyone. They’ll appreciate your generosity and be so happy you thought of them. No need to bring an entire entrée—just a little something goes a long way.
3. Be friendly!
You would think this goes without saying, but sometimes nerves can get the best of us gals. Don’t let your worrying come off as rude. There’s nothing wrong with being shy, but too shy can seem uninterested. Shake their hands and pay attention to any siblings or pets.
4. Chat about a common interest.
If your BF tells you his parents absolutely love the latest summer blockbuster, use that to your advantage. You guys can talk about how funny it was, and how much you both love the actors in the movie. Being able to connect with them about something you both find interesting is a great way to get to know them better.
5. Ask about them.
Since you’re just meeting your BF’s rents, you probably don’t know much about their jobs and other hobbies. Make sure to ask, and listen even if they ramble on. They’ll love telling you about what they do all day, and what they do on the weekends. Maybe they’ll even invite you on that day trip they’ve been planning!
6. Bring younger siblings a li’l prezzie.
If you know your new cutie has younger siblings, bring them a cute surprise like a toy or some candy. It shows that you thought about them, which they'll love. A stamp of approval from his picky kid sister? Major brownie points!
