CRUSHES
Advice
Dear Carol: Is it time for me to move on from my crush?
I always like a guy for a long time, no
matter what. I just got over someone, and now I like a new guy. I’m
afraid to show my interest because I’ll keep liking him even if he
doesn’t like me back. He’s popular; I’m not. Should I go for it
or try to move on?
Dear Afraid to Love Again,
Here’s what you should not do: stalk
him in the hall, IM him 24/7, put his cell number on your speed dial,
or tell friends to get the word out that you’re ready when he is.
But feel free to smile in his direction, say “hi,” ask a friendly
question, and maybe even compliment him on his winning goal or class
presentation. Take tiny steps to gauge the warmth of his reaction. As
for declaring that, once you like someone, you’re stuck liking him
for life? Surprise yourself by changing your ways. This boy is only
one of thousands in your community. If he’s nice and attentive, he
may hold your interest. If not, you have the power to get out of a
one-way crush.
